Again and Again

Let’s discuss this here. I haven’t heard it yet but am interested in seeing what people think while I sit on conference calls all day.

I'm a big fan, especially of the slowed down version. My favorite horn line though is what they do at the end, and they only really had it playing on the outro as the song faded out.

dandtrock 05-31-2018 09:48 AM

If this is Cavallo he continues his hatred for horns.

I don't mind it, but it doesn't knock my dirty socks off. Still seems more Dave solo.

plenty of discussion going on in the album thread

I was kinda lukewarm on the track at first but upon further listens it's a real grower. Wasn't too crazy about it live in 2016.

I like it. Probably my favorite of the 3 songs released so far. They could’ve done more with it but a nice track for Stefan to shine on.

Could use more horns.

okay

separate threads for tracks are okay too to streamline the discussion

I dig it. It's not amazing but it's certainly not a bad song. Could certainly use a 'jam,' but it's Everyday-esque in that respect that it seems to have had its balls cut off in the studio.

Josh.0 05-31-2018 09:52 AM

I'm listening now because my first meeting ended a little early. I appreciate their willingness to try something new and a little funky, I also like Fonz's work and Dave's vocals but I think overall it is a little generic and not overly memorable.

It's getting better with each passing listen, but I'm still disappointed. I had high hopes for this one based off of the live performances. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Josh.0 05-31-2018 09:58 AM

Actually, something else I will mention that I like is the overall groove. People kept talking about a "groove" in That Girl is You that my ear doesn't seem to be able to pick up on, but in this there's a clear groove and tracks are laid for the band to take off with this live.

I still don't like seeing Dave behind a piano in a live environment (because I don't think he's very good at it and he has much more to offer standing behind six strings), but if maybe eventually they give his parts to Buddy and Dave adds some guitar parts I think this could end up being a pretty fun song live.

This is essentially how I feel. It's not bad, per se, but it's bland and I don't have much interest in listening to it more than twice.

I agree 100%, I know it doesn't real mean anything, but I just don't like seeing Dave playing the keys on songs.

I don't mind this song slowed down, but it does lack any kind of DMB originality factor. Drums sound like anyone could play them, same with the horns. And the strings to me don't really work that well over this. Overall though, it's still so far the best song that we've heard off the album out of the 3 released thus far.

Cavallo said his favorite songs off the album aren't ones he produced, I'm curious which ones they are..because this sounds like it was Cavallo/Alagia and I think someone confirmed that.

greykitkat36 05-31-2018 10:06 AM

Also don't like how everything drops out to just dave's voice on "here we go.." think it sounds weird and kills energy of the track

mrpeters 05-31-2018 10:08 AM

Can someone post the Spotify link so I can properly rip this?

FLAC should also be available for purchase on the Australian TIDAL store.

They really neutered this song in the studio. Where's the funk from the live track? Carter's so much quieter. Where the slap base? This track had so much studio potential, and they really dropped the ball.

This has to be more of a Dave decision. There are horns all over Big Whiskey (especially the bonus tracks) and they sound great.

Exactly. The funk, drums and bass, was the main thing this song had going for it. Neutered.
