General Music Thread

discuss bands/artists you're currently in to, shows, etc. music in this forum is especially scattershot so this should help.

I like music in general.

FiddySpence 08-10-2011 08:49 PM

i feel like such a dork for trying like hell to find this BNL One Week EP just for a live version of Shoebox.

brian3641 08-10-2011 08:51 PM

One Week was the soundtrack of summer 98 :upyours Shoebox is a great tune, too.

tied with When I Fall as my favorite BNL tune, and i didn't know til tonight that there was a live one out there. now i can't find it anywhere.

jeff1818 08-10-2011 08:55 PM

i saw BNL back in camden '98. i think they played "jump around" because everlast refused to perform it. what a bum.

FiddySpence 08-10-2011 08:56 PM

i love when i'm reminded that Everlast exists :lol

jeff1818 08-10-2011 09:03 PM

he was truly terrible. at that same show (the philly FEZtival), there was a water bottle war during smash mouth's set (SMASH MOUTH!) and of course the offspring turned on a fire hose onto the crowd while that kid did his dance to that one song about white rappers...what was that song called?

oh, some of those 90s bands were something else. fuel and len were also there.

FiddySpence 08-10-2011 09:09 PM

i love seeing lineups for those 90's radio festivals.

that Offspring song is probably Pretty Fly For A White Guy, but they had a few of those "joke" songs once they got really terrible.

dmb6743 08-10-2011 09:28 PM

They used to be so good, we actually put on Smash the other day at work. I just saw Smash Mouth a couple of years ago, they played after a Pirates game and were asked to never come back again because they congratulated the Steelers on winning the Super Bowl.

If you guys are in to podcasts (and I wasn't until I discovered one the other day), Subway Sessions is awesome. Basically takes bands and has them perform in the NYC Subways. Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Love, Matt Costa, some other no name bands, but did get real into one band they had on there called Pearl and The Beard. They are real solid.

FiddySpence 08-10-2011 09:32 PM

yeah Smash is killer. me and my friends used to have some pretty epic rock outs to Bad Habit

"you stupid dumb shit god damn MOTHERFUCKER!"

FiddySpence 08-10-2011 09:43 PM

great now i'm downloading the offspring discography. thanks dude.

dmb6743 08-10-2011 09:46 PM

You're welcome.

Isn't it on Rock Spectacle? Also, Born on a Pirate Ship is a terribly underrated album. Thanks for reminding me!

EDIT: Thought you meant When I Fall, not Shoebox. My bad.

nope. per wiki:

A live version of "Shoe Box" was on promotional and advance copies of this record, but was left off at the last second. This particular recording of "Shoe Box" appears on the "One Week" CD single

and yeah i love Born On A Pirate Ship, it's my favorite BNL album. it was the first i bought of theirs after hearing Shoebox on the FRIENDS soundtrack :lol

brian3641 08-10-2011 10:50 PM

I had a chance to see BNL in 99. It was between going with my buddies to that or sex with a relatively attractive chick. I would've loved to have gone, but I chose the sex. I don't regret it.

3-D 08-10-2011 11:59 PM

Goddamn, haven't really thought about BNL in forever but I just might have that One Week single at my parents' house.
