I think that's why I loved the Caravan's so much in 2011. It was DMB but it had the vibe of a D+F party show, with the D+T opening sets and all the fun covers and what not. 2011 is pretty underrated--I know it wasn't a full tour obviously, but those were some damn good shows and unique too.

Wow. I was just having this thought today. Maybe not the D+F piece but how 2011 was really a good year. I didn’t like it at the time because I thought they needed to take a year off but the music they put out was really good. I was watching Gorge N2 from 2011. Really good playing.

Yeah I thought all the shows were very inspired and the playing was really good. Also, each show mattered a lot more because there were so few of them. And because they were all 3 night stands you got a really good spread of the catalog and a lot of new covers, guests and bustouts. I say D+F because it kind of had this more loose fun vibe and there were so many Cover songs debuted. I’m not a fan of festival crowds or that kind of format per day, but listening back and on paper it was a nice summer.

Listening to 1/16/04 reconfirms to me how much DMB needs to try both Dodo and Too High.

NP: 12/28/92. Did someone say "Seafood restaurant"? So Lewis's was a seafood joint that hosted bands at night. Whoduthunkit.

Pretty standard fall 92 set. Great Minarets > Blue Water
Long jam before Typical

NP: 3/1/95
Let's hop in the van and travel the country in the winter of '95.
Big auditorium at MSU. Very nice AUD tape... a bit boomy at times though.
Great LIOG. Nice early Proudest Monkey.

Cigarette Lit on repeat. Forgot how much I liked it.

This should have replaced the full band Gravedigger.

NP: 3/4/95. So who’s up for a quick stop in Cleveland? The weather’s cold and so is the beer. Seek Up opener is always a great way to get things going. Great Recently > water/wine > 36 > ants to send this fine crowd home all abuzz.

NP: 3/5/95 Duquesne University, Pittsburgh PA. Pronounced Doo-Kane. I'm pretty sure my brother-in-law was at this show, as he's seen them in Pitt since 94. Pretty cool AUD.
Recently > W/W > LIOG always is a treat to start a show. Jane encore. A quick final song and the band had left the stage.

This is actually the first time hearing W/W with "lie in our graves" lyrics in it. Very cool.

Bartender 12/10/09

Dave's pretty passionate in this intro. Gonna also listen to the Two Step from this show.

Definitely my favorite version of If I Had It All

What are you currently listening to? (DMB edition)

Yesterday I had listened to 2001.07.25 - AmSouth Ampitheatre, Antioch, TN

What a show! Jeff on Bartender is amazing, then when the ‘tones (without Wooten) walked on the stage, the show became legendary.
• The half-an-hour version of #41 is a 🔝one. Carter goes literally nuts, at a certain point. Probably even better that Ottawa 2002 version.
• Spectacular Watchtower with Jeff playing an amazing Stairway to Heaven interpolation. Much better in respect to the way they are doing that today.

Do you like 7.25.01 more than 9.4.00? Kind of an interesting question I haven’t really heard discussed.

gweeps 08-30-2021 12:52 PM

Starting Dave & Tim 1/14/97.

Over 24 years ago. Back when Dave was in the prime of his creative urges.

That’s a great show and the tape is unexpectedly excellent too. Listened last year in quarantine.

It's one of your uploads here. :) Thanks.

*All of Dave's weird noises were later funnelled into Be Yourself and Jimi scats.*

This is fantastic.

trippinbillyrmc 08-30-2021 10:58 PM

Do yourself a favor and check out Chris Jones' 7-23 tape, Wow, this recording is fantastic! Especially the LLD/WWYS with Branford Marsalis...

The Maker 9/3/11

A lovely version. But then again, this song is never not lovely.

gweeps 09-01-2021 01:26 PM

10/18/15

The band is in Italy. The crowd is excited but not freaking out like some of the others. This Lie in our Graves is fantastic.
