TDC Movie Club: Film Of The Week Discussion Redux:: Pick #4 - Frequency

So this thing kind of petered out while it was run by nick, but it looks like he won't be coming around here anymore so I say we give it another shot. I have some ideas for how it can run a little better and be a little easier on everyone involved. Everyone is free to give suggestions and we can hopefully turn this thing into something pretty great.

- One movie every two weeks. I want to be pretty firm about the deadlines only because it got to the point where everyone just completely ignored them after they were pushed back for 4 movies in a row. So I figure two weeks instead of one is more than enough time to watch one movie. Hopefully will put up the first pick this Monday night.

-We'll still do reviews, but the main purpose of them I think should just be to give a rating which will still be based on a 10 point system. I think where this also went wrong before was the emphasis on just getting a review in and moving on. That's pointless to me. This should be a discussion club more than anything else. I'd like to actually talk about the movies instead of everyone just writing the same shit in all of their reviews. So don't worry about the reviews being comprehensive or anything. I think that also put people off and got them behind, thinking they had to write a mini-essay or something. Something short and sweet is fine, just as long as you give a rating.

-I don't think we should make this as complicated as he did. We're not going to do averages of all the ratings unless you guys really want them.

-Everyone is welcome. I'll lead off the first pick, and we'll work on a rotation. If you're interested just chime in that you want to participate and we'll add you to the back of the line. I personally really enjoyed this thing in theory, let's make it work.

i forgot about that. you said you were in last night so you're second.

sean52692 01-19-2013 10:06 PM

I have considerably more down time than I did last time, so I'll be able to keep up with this. Especially w/ the two weeks.

brian3641 01-19-2013 10:08 PM

Thank you. But seriously:

That's what hung me up honestly. I'd sometimes see the movies but not want to write this long, drawn out thing so I just skipped posting about them.

sean52692 01-19-2013 10:17 PM

Yeah, I definitely agree. Ratings are great & if people feel like they need to say something, they can point it out with a paragraph of analysis, or whatever.

I do like the X/10 system. I have a few ratings up on Flixter w/ Facebook and I'm generally fairly stingy with those.

brian3641 01-19-2013 10:25 PM

I wouldn't be against making it a 1 to 10 system instead of 5 stars. But, that's up to Spence I guess.

sean52692 01-19-2013 10:27 PM

Oh, I didn't notice that he pointed out it would be 5 stars. Basically, it's the same thing and I'm cool with both.

brian3641 01-19-2013 10:28 PM

I know they're both the same thing essentially, but 1 to 10 seems to give you more leeway.

True, especially when using .5 increments.

FiddySpence 01-19-2013 10:37 PM

10 point system it is.

brian3641 01-19-2013 10:47 PM

Now I just need to find a pick that will totally alienate Spence.

Let's all do that and drive Fiddy away from his own club. :lol
