I use it. Love it. Not sure what would make it worth it for you. I do it for the mobile streaming mostly. 320kbps streaming of their entire library to your phone or ipod FTW

I got it pretty much right after posting that. I love it.

No doubt smarting from the public’s steadfast refusal to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Use Your Illusion albums, Axl Rose is gearing up for a tour with Guns N’ Roses (sorry, “Guns N’ Roses”) that will visit South America, Mexico, and the United States this fall. So far there are only three U.S. dates that have been announced—you’ve been warned, Miami, Orlando, and Kansas City—but more shows are expected. If the concerts go on as planned, it will be the first proper GNR tour in five years. The lineup will include whoever hasn’t pissed off Axl this week, though some are hoping for a reunion of the original lineup should the band get inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame. (GNR is eligible starting next year.) But it’s unlikely any version of Gun N’ Roses will include Slash, who Rose called “a cancer” in 2009. If by “cancer” he meant “an integral and important part of the band,” he’s absolutely right. [Via Rolling Stone]

To paraphrase songwriter and composer Meredith Wilson, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas gift-guide season, as websites and inboxes are aglow with images of handsomely packaged, generously tracklisted reissues, box sets, and other pop artifacts too pricey to purchase during the other three-quarters of the year. Today, the wishes of the various Barneys, Bens, Janices, and Jens take the form of the food-stamp card with which the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard gleefully gamed the government before plastering it on the cover 1995’s Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version—a replica of which accompanies Get On Down’s forthcoming deluxe reissue of the record. The set comes wrapped in a yellow wallet emblazoned with ODB’s mug, and features the original album along with a supplementary disc of remixes, rarities, instrumentals, and a cappellas. That, along with a reproduction of a Return-era tour poster and extended liner notes should place it at the top of any Wu-Tang disciple’s wish list—though we all know who the set’s true intended recipients are. This gift is for the children. [Pitchfork]

John Mayer has a growth near his vocal chords:

John Mayer Scraps Shows, Delays Album Due to a Mass in His Throat

Today 5:48 PM PDT by Natalie Finn
John Mayer Michael Caulfield/WireImage.com

John Mayer has heavier things to worry about than performing right now.

The singer has canceled his upcoming appearances with Tony Bennett in L.A. and at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas next weekend, revealing today that he has a granuloma—an inflamed nodule or tumor-like mass of tissue—near his vocal cords.

"I know there were people depending on me to be there and I'm sorry that I can't be on those stages," a "bummed" Mayer wrote on Tumblr today.

And that's not the only bad news.

MORE: John Mayer Admits He Was a "Tweetaholic"

"After several months of going week to week monitoring and hoping to correct the condition, I am forced to cancel my upcoming singing engagements due to something next to my vocal cords called a granuloma," Mayer, 33, announced on Tumblr.

"Born and Raised [his next album] is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing, but because of this condition I couldn't finish singing on several of the tracks," he continued. "This means the record will be released next year instead of this fall or winter."

Cue the disappointment among Mayer fans, who were counting on his fifth studio album to drop next month. But the Grammy winner is trying to be optimistic.

"This is a temporary setback, though I'm not sure how long or short a period of time it will be," he wrote. "I've got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear. Until then I'll be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you again soon. Until then take good care."

We wish Mayer a speedy full recovery.

man that sucks, but not really surprising considering their last record was basically the entire career summed up in 45 minutes.

inmytree 09-21-2011 01:10 PM

I agree, it's not surprising, and it's amicable. They just felt like it's the right type to end it.

It's still sad, though. Best band, IMO.

except i think you meant to put that in the 2011 thread where it was actually being talked about

NiCK (Crush) 09-21-2011 09:45 PM

these two threads might as well be the same

FiddySpence 09-21-2011 09:46 PM

not really. one is for new releases, this is for everything else. it's good to have them separate for people that actually care about music.

NiCK (Crush) 09-21-2011 09:47 PM

So we can't talk about new music in the general music thread?

FiddySpence 09-21-2011 09:50 PM

of course, but clearly you meant to post it in the other thread considering it was responding to no one in particular here so don't get all indignant about it and just go post it where you meant to. no big deal dude.

NiCK (Crush) 09-21-2011 10:05 PM

I really didn't mean to post it anywhere. I remember seeing the post from homer, and I could have sworn it was in here. So as you said, no big deal.

Still, it amazes me that even though I average 300+ films a year, I still haven't watched Rocky.

Anyway, I will dig it out. Have all 6 films on a DVD someplace.

From what I remember it was pretty good. The kind of action flick that has been dead since the early 90s.

Though at first I thought you were talking about Nighthawks. Rutger Hauer is one hell of a man.

FiddySpence 09-21-2011 11:43 PM

wrong. the correct answer is "really really awesome".

and you lose extra points for confusing it with the inferior Nighthawks. i mean, stallone has a beard in that one they're not even close to the same thing

mja271 09-21-2011 11:44 PM

I watched Hobo with a Shotgun recently. That was pretty hilarious.

NiCK (Crush) 09-21-2011 11:45 PM

I watched Episode 1 today from the Blu-ray set. Now I'm watching Red Letter Media's review on it again... priceless.

The Complete Saga came with 3 discs of extras. 9 discs total. For $65 it made more financial sense.

damn its only 65 bucks for all 9 disc? Blu ray?

I gotta hit that up.

3-D 09-22-2011 01:12 PM

Buying the "complete saga" is the only way to get all of the bonus material, if you're into that sort of thing. If you're going to buy the blu-rays, it really does seem like the way to go, prequels or not.

mja271 09-22-2011 01:39 PM

I saw the complete sage on Blu Ray for like $80 at Costco today. I'm not enough of a Star Wars nerd to buy it for all the extras and the first three movies, but that seemed like a pretty solid deal.

FiddySpence 09-23-2011 10:57 PM

The website SB Nation is reporting that Madonna is the latest old-timey pop star to be booked as fun entertainment for the whole family at the Super Bowl. The NFL hasn't confirmed it, though it appears that the arrival of an official word is only a matter of time. Madonna recently announced that she's working on a new record that's scheduled to be released in spring, with a new single likely coming a few months in advance. Which would mean that the most-watched sporting event on the nation's calendar would be an ideal PR opportunity for the 53-year-old singer. If Madonna does perform, we're sure it will be a suitably modest and scaled-down affair befitting the occasion. [Via Entertainment Weekly]
